On January 3, 2017, WRDSB introduced changes to the filtering of internet content on our open wireless network, WRDSB Wireless.

These changes mean that if you continue to connect using WRDSB Wireless you will no longer be able to access some popular websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Vimeo.

You can continue to access the same sites as today – on any device – by logging in to the WRDSB Signup or WRDSB Secure wireless network using your WRDSB PAL account and password.

Personal devices (BYOD) can use either network. To get started using a personal device, associate with the WRDSB Signup network. You may then register your device for automated login to WRDSB Secure or just use the Internet after authentication.

WRDSB-managed devices such as iPads and Chromebooks are configured by IT Services staff for automatic login to WRDSB Secure.

School purchased (non-WRDSB-managed) devices should use WRDSB Signup or WRDSB Wireless.

WRDSB Wireless

Our open WiFi network. WRDSB Wireless will remain mainly for device provisioning.

This network will be scaled down in terms of available resources.

Resources such as YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook and Twitter are not available on this network.

WRDSB Signup

Our base wireless network – the starting point. Full Internet access and device registration link for the WRDSB Secure network.

A captive portal authentication page, compatible with all devices.

Requires your PAL account to authenticate. All individual PAL accounts will work.

Manual login is required daily or when browser/OS times out.

WRDSB Secure

Fully encrypted network. All WRDSB-shared (multi-user) devices will be pre-configured to use this network.

Personal devices (BYOD) can be configured to use this network. Login becomes automatic once configured.

For configuration instructions, select your device type in the top menu.

This network utilizes certificates for authentication – you cannot use your PAL account if you do not have a certificate on your device by registering.

It is highly recommended that you configure your device to use WRDSB Secure if you use our WiFi regularly.

Students with ‘One to One’ Chromebooks can also be configured for WRDSB Secure!

Troubleshooting

  • I cannot log into the WRDSB Signup portal.
    • Log a ticket in ITService Desk, as your account may not be assigned proper group permissions or you have another PAL account issue.
  • My Device prompts me for a username/password on the WRDSB Secure network.
    • You must run through the Device Registration procedure to install the certificates on your device.
    • You cannot use your PAL username and password on this network.
  • The Register a Device page disappears before I can click the link.
  • The IntelliGO download fails and sends me back to the IntelliGO login page.
    • Check that the account set up for Google Play Store is NOT a wrdsb.ca account. Use a personal Gmail account for the Play Store.
    • Check that your device date & time is correct. If your device is not within 15 minutes of the correct time, the package download will fail.
    • Try using another browser. For best results use Safari on MacOSX as default.
    • Go to Register a Device in another browser.
    • Use the WRDSB Signup network instead.

Known Issues

  • Smartphones should NOT use wrdsb.ca accounts with the Google Play Store. A personal gmail account should be used for the Play Store app in order to install the IntelliGO app. (wrdsb.ca google accounts are not currently enabled for Play Store.)
  • Apple iOS 12 is confirmed working with IntelliGO. For all Apple devices, Safari should be used for enrollment/installation.
